anasys is a materials characterisation service specialising in thermal methods. We provide the established methods of DSC, TGA, TMA and DMA and these can all be interfaced to Evolved Gas Analysis by GC-MS. In addition we have particular expertise in the new, more advanced thermal methods that have emerged recently including constrained (or "high resolution") temperature programming applied to thermogravimetry, modulated temperature methods (particularly Modulated Temperature DSC), and micro-Thermal Analysis with a full range of conventional and more advanced AFM capabilities combined with a temperature stage.

Personnel

The consultancy is headed by Dr. Stephen Warrington who has been working in the field of thermal analysis for over 20 years, mostly in contract research. Having carried out his PhD on the application of simultaneous thermal analysis - mass spectrometry he has continued to develop this technique which is offered by anasys in a versatile form that provides for an interface between all our techniques and GC-MS.

The consultancy also has access to the expertise of Dr. Mike Reading, the inventor of Modulated Temperature DSC and part of the team that invented micro-TA, he also has extensive experience with constrained rate methods. Added to this is the expertise of Duncan Price, the inventor of Modulated Temperature TMA and a pioneer in the applications of micro-TA. Together they have over 20 years of experience working on industrial applications of thermal analysis to polymers.

Techniques

The techniques described below can be complemented by a full range of other analytical techniques such as NMR, SIMS, XPS, LIMA if required.

DSC

Both conventional and Modulated Temperature versions of Differential Scanning Calorimetry from -140°C to 500°C

TGA

Thermogravimetry in its conventional, constrained rate (high resolution) and Modulated Temperature versions from ambient to 1000°C

TMA & DMA

Thermomechanical Analysis from -70°C to 1000°C.
Dynamic Mechanical Analysis from -140°C to 500°C.
Thin Film Analysis.

µTA

The full range of micro-TA capabilities with AFM including Pulsed Force Imaging with a hot/cold stage.

EGA by GC-MS

All techniques can be interfaced to Evolved Gas Analysis by trapping and subsequent analysis by thermal desorption GC-MS.
